“The Christmas Shoes” This heartwarming story stars Rob Lowe, as Robert Layton, a workaholic attorney with no time for Christmas---until a young boy helps him rediscover the true meaning of this special time of year:  Clearly, Layton is overdue for a "humanizing" treatment, which comes in the form of a little boy named Nathan Andrews. Learning that his mother, Maggie is dying from congenital heart failure, and unable to financially rely upon his underemployed father, Jack, Nathan goes about collecting tin cans and other throwaways so that he can afford an expensive pair of red shoes for his ailing mom. Nathan's plight not only touches Layton, but also has a heartwarming trickle-down effect on the lawyer's estranged family.

Created by God:

Parents and Church Partnering to Prepare Preteens with a Healthy, Faithful Understanding of Human Sexuality

Dates: January 30-February 2, 2020

Location: St. Paul’s UMC

Participant information

(4th – 7th grades)

Your preteen is at the ideal age for getting involved with this study.  They are curious but not yet obligated to pretend as though they already know everything.  When offered a setting where their questions and ability to understand “adult” information are treated with respect, they will ask anything.

You can learn more about Created by God and its mission AND download a registration form for your preteen by going to http://stpaulsc.org/files/163/CBG-2020.pdf  or stpaulsc.org/children and clicking on the link.  Info is also available in the McAllister Lobby of the Education Center. Look for the goldenrod colored pamphlet. Registration Deadline is January 15 for both the event and childcare for younger siblings.  Contact Tori Von Leer (tvonleer@stpaulsc.org) if you need additional information.

Encouragement from a St. Paul’s Family:

Jim and I desire strong and honest communication with our girls and have sought, with intention, ways to strengthen open conversation. When our first child attended, we were curious and a bit nervous about the content. We knew it was the right choice given the conversations we had on the way home from sessions, at the end of the program, and on numerous occasions since the program. Don't be afraid to blow the doors off the taboos and fear around the topic of sexuality. What better place to hear the truth about God's plan for sexuality than at church!”  Julie Simon
